Walk the walk – start as me, come back you

Posted in 1 on June 30, 2008 by dancorrigan

Making progress here in Hamburg. I can’t say too much but I’m 90% sure the missing tape still exists and 60% sure I know where it is. The problems – two of them – is that I don’t know how to get it back yet, and I’ve got no clue what’s on it when I do. My mind is torn between the job here, and reading about the revelations as they unfold way out in Fredericksburg – I would so love to be there, even if I don’t get to the cache first.

I am spending my days going through a whole load of security videos, and my nights exploring the city. Whoever broke into the Replay Studios offices did a really thorough job of covering their tracks. Replay have not been properly logging or labelling their surveillance tapes, which doesn’t help. It’s long dull work but I’m being paid by the day, so this isn’t worrying me at all.

My primary job is to ascertain who would want to steal the artifacts, anything I find along the way is a bonus – technically it should be passed to the police but I’m not going to be precious about that. So when I say I’m exploring the city at night, I don’t mean I’m sticking to the tourist routes, wearing a gaudy tee-shirt, or carrying a big in-yer-face camera… though I am taking photographs. Actually we have done some sightseer stuff and VJ took me to the Reeperbahn – well we walked past it, the street was closed off. I was a bit merry on the drink, and didn’t have the danglies to try it. But St Pauli ‘FTW’, as my nephew keeps saying.

The cache may require some impersonation to get at, especially as it was left for the person who met an untimely demise in 1998. Time will tell, but I too am curious to know what is in the book, and where it leads. Having unearthed the French box of tricks, I believe the trail to this one will also have a staggered process, but if you can work out its secrets it should take no time at all.

The path to it is likely labyrinthine but circular… books reserved at stores, locations off the beaten track, even caches hidden in the most unassuming of places. I should have used my last days at Surer Risk to see if there was any information in the archives on who sets these things up. After my original tip off I started my hunt outside a crêperie, which led to a walk down along a nature trail, only to end up back where I started. Take a walk as someone, come back as someone else… A chance to shed an identity in a matter of minutes.

Dangerous? Possibly. Just because the people who set it up haven’t reclaimed it in ten years doesn’t mean it’s going to stay that way. Don’t count on it being there forever.

Blimey, you don’t check your email for a day and this happens…

J***, if you’re reading this, I finally received your message. Hope you’re okay. Do not take any more risks. We are working towards recovering the missing material—well, I’m tied up in Germany for the moment but there is activity. (And may I remind my active readers that it sounds like the missing material is similar to the material I found in France… and if you’ve forgotten about that then this may jog your memory.)

Right, you lot, get to it.

Virtuous Reality

So I am here in Hamburg, working on something that seems real, but is a virtual representation of what I have been involved in for the past few months. It often gets confusing – with me asking “Which Violette Summer are you referring to, the real one or the game?” In this world, they all seem the same, especially as the real Violette’s stuff was stolen from the Replay offices.

My first quest is to see whether the stuff has any actual value outside the normal collector circles, or if this ties in with my adventures in France. I can’t go into detail about the actual pieces, but needless to say, if they are connected to her last cache, it could be something of national importance to a few countries – UK, Germany, and France.

They are still not giving me an ‘in’ on the game-play details of Velvet Assassin, but it looks pretty awesome – quite close to the real thing, especially the locations – the actual places where she operated in WWII.

More from me when the trust is in place.

Has anyone managed to crack the gobbledygook yet? If so, kindly let me know!

For code’s sake

I have no idea who sent me this cute message in a cute anonymous email but I’m guessing it’s one of you lot. I don’t have time to mess around playing WWII reindeer games right now. If you have to email me, please do it in plain text. Or better, learn to use a phone. Meanwhile, if someone can be bothered to decode it, knock yourself out. I’m busy.

I am in Hamburg, meeting new people – VJ is a cool guy, knowledgeable, measured and I am sure he wont mind me saying ‘German”. Things are hectic – being an outsider, letting me in on company secrets and confidential stuff means I need to gain some trust here. First thing is what was stolen, how can it be used and does it relate to the fevered attention that Violette Summer is currently getting?

I am not sure why someone broke in, especially as all this could be a myth – The Fan thinks otherwise. My father would be proud of me right now – using all he taught me on those cold Saturday mornings out on the beach with metal detecting equipment – he used to say “mark the spot in your note book, son, and you’ll be able to retrace your steps. Look for landmarks, and use your compass.” The compass became the GPS, and now a coded telephone number looks like GPS coordinates. Tel: (302)75 98870 = +30.275 -98.870. I am certain that there’s something of importance out there and we need to find it NOW.

Surer is caught short

Posted in 1 on June 14, 2008 by dancorrigan

Though it is supposed to make sense, I am still very much confused, with many unanswered questions. But the fuss over my french adventure, Peter Hayder, and the mystery of Snow White is clear.

So, Surer – my previous employer, was involved in some ‘funny business’, dating back to 1998. One such episode ended with two deaths, one of them Matthew White, who I am sure is related to Snow White. It can’t be a coincidence this incident happened in Peyrat le Chateau where I found the French cache.

For me, the disclosure of operations dating back to 1998, confirms some of my suspicions of a cover-up. I remember the panic when I mentioned where I had been, and what I found led to me being grounded.

Surer’s been around since WWII, their origin was as a section of MI-6’s Nova 5 division in charge of intercepting shipments of Nazi gold, re-purposing it for allied operatives working behind enemy lines, but that is supposed to be in the past. They surely can’t still be allied to the Ministry of Defence or MI6, could they, and what’s with the hallmarked gold? The department was disbanded after the war, but could they still be in the business? They have operatives all over the world, which does fit the MO of a company involved this sort of stuff.

And, there was a “dark side” of Surer, a department run by a strategic partner involved covert operations, fake Surer Risk identities, murder, and involved in getting people out of the former Soviet bloc. This operation has been in stasis since 1998, and involved Peter Hayder, so he has been lurking around Surer for a whole decade. I am not sure whether the recorded conversation between two Surer trustees is admissible in court, but it will be embarrassing.

Who is Peter Hayder? Where is he from and what is his involvement in this drama? The “asset” mentioned on the taped phone chat, must be an agent called Caspar Ebersbach, who was en-route from the East, but heading where?

If the first cache had gold, what about the second cache mentioned in the conversation? This all confirms what Snow White told me a month ago.

The key to this is most definitely “Casper Ebersbach”, but he’s dead. The address on the letter I found in the cache is the only lead left. It seems like a German name, but in a very ‘US’ sounding address, and an area code for Delaware, but the rest of the number doesn’t tally – to be honest, I called the number and it doesn’t exist. I have scoured over the picture, and this is what it says:

Paul Martin
Gold Schlägt Geld
East Main Street
North Washington
(302)75 98870

I need to find this man or what ever it refers to.

Everything Snow White told me months ago seems to be true. She may not be such a bad egg after all.

I need time to digest this, and work out a game plan. I am off to Hamburg to help Replay Studios find Violette Summer’s stolen items, and I’m going to inform them of this development.

Off to work I go

As co-founder of Corrigan Recovery LLP, I have maneuvered my way into setting up our first job, I am heading for Germany.

I will be hooking up with VJ and a contact in Hamburg, to investigate the theft of Violette Summer’s items from the Replay Studios offices, in Germany.

I knew this adventure wasn’t over, and having a vested interest in this means I should be able to crack it. There’s always a reward at the end of a treasure find.
